北京师范大学统计学科发展已有着近百年的历史。早在年，北京高等师范学校（北京师范大学的前身）就面向数理部高年级学生开设了《统计学》专业课程。建国以后，北京师范大学的概率统计研究队伍在国内较早地开展了概率论与数理统计专业建设；年，北师大首批获得概率论与数理统计专业博士学位授予权；年概率论与数理统计被评为国家级重点学科；年，北师大整合数理统计和经济统计的师资团队，组建了统计学院。

ThedisciplineofStatisticsinBeijingNormalUniversity(BNU)hasahistoryofnearlyahundredyears.Earlyin,ourpredecessorBeijingAdvancedNormalSchoolsetupthecourseStatisticsforseniorstudentsoftheDepartmentofMathematics.AfterthefoundingofthePeoplesRepublicofChina,ourresearchteaminprobabilitystatisticspioneeredinthedisciplineconstructionofProbabilityandMathematicalStatisticsinChina.In,wewereamongthefirstinstitutionstoconferthedoctoraldegreeofProbabilityandMathematicalStatistics,andlaterin,thedisciplinewasrecognizedasoneofnationalkeydisciplines.In,theSchoolofStatisticswasestablishedbyintegratingfacultyfrombothMathematicalStatisticsandEconomicStatistics.

统计学院根据“大统计、跨学科、有特色”的学科定位，形成了经济统计与数理统计文理兼顾、协同发展的学科格局，在建设国内外一流的统计科学研究和高层次人才培养基地的道路上不断取得进步。在教育部第四轮学科评估中，北师大统计学科获评A类学科；年，北师大统计与运筹学QS国际排名位于-之间。

对统计学科建设具有创新性构想和战略性思维，在统计学国际前沿领域取得具有重大学术价值的标志性、高水平成果，具有国际学术影响力的海内外著名高校及科研机构的杰出人才和著名专家学者，年龄原则上不超过60周岁。
